Growing up in New York City, I have always been passionate about the arts, especially the performing arts. I believe exposure to the arts is crucial to students' cultural development which leads to an overall appreciation for the arts. As an educator, my participation in the Arts in Education initiative afforded my Middle School students with opportunities to attend Broadway performances,as well as work with artists in residence both in the classroom and on stage.
As a classroom teacher, I wrote and was awarded an Excel Grant to teach citizenship to Middle School English language learners in an after-school program. As an administrator, I was choosen as District Level Director of Title VII programs by the Superintendent of schools. After retiring as an Assistant Principal, I continued to be active in the field of education. I became the Senior Education Consultant for the Empowering Boys Network working to support schools' efforts to close the achievement gap for Black and Latino boys. I also became a visiting professor at Mercy Colledge, teaching aspiring principals in the leadership program. I was invited to Join Bank Street College as an Adjunct professor in the Bilingual/ESL Teacher Leadership Academy, delivering instruction to teacher leaders working with immigrant students.
