In this role, I led a crew of three out of our substation on "A Shift".
In addition to providing efficient emergency management on a crew level, I had the added responsibilities of:
Ensuring all special projects (hose, hydrants, pre-plans) were completed.
Properly documenting all incidents, work orders, daily shift logs and pass-ons, etc.
Keeping crew up to date on pertinent information
Coordinating training both the company and multi-company levels
Working as the Acting Captain in the absence of our shift captain
Beginning in July of 2024, I was appointed Acting Captain and ran out of Battalion 20.

I started with the City of Mauldin as a probationary firefighter, with duties that included regular street tests and job training in addition to regular daily duties
I was checked off as a relief apparatus driver in 2018 and in 2020 was given the opportunity to test for the position of Engineer
I was one of three applicants out of 8 that tested to receive promotion after an extensive process that included a hands-on portion, a pump calculation test, general knowledge test and a district knowledge test
In addition to my regular duties, the Engineer role came with the added responsibilities of keeping training records and fire inspections, as well as running a station in the absence of my Lieutenant
I also oversaw shift training and physical fitness training for my crew

I got my start in the fire service at Glassy Mountain Fire Department
After starting as a volunteer, I was sponsored by my department to attend the Fire Academy in 2013
This led to a part time job upon completion and a full time job the first time an opening became available
I made it to the rank of Sergeant, a position that entailed acting as a point of contact for a group of around 15 volunteer firefighters
I was responsible for ensuring they kept up with company training as well as attending mandatory meetings, trainings and other department functions
I assisted with bringing on new volunteers and getting them acclimated to the department
Other duties included assisted with cadet firefighter training
I regularly attended and helped instruct these trainings
I was also the chair of our MDA 'Fill The Boot' Drive which raised more money than the department had ever previously raised under my direction
