As an Audio Assistant I work School of music events and run the livestreams, cameras, lights, and sound. I also record events in protools and set up audio equipment. We work closely with the talent to ensure they are comfortable and happy with everything as they prepare for their performance. It's important to me that they feel confident. I've learned how to set up recording session and audio equipment in varying different environments and stages.
I've learned so much working at the zoo. In attractions we do everything from the carousel, to the goat yard, to the splash pad, to the ropes course, and much more. I love interacting with guest and making their zoo experience special. I've become experienced in management skills as there are a lot of people working in attraction so we often need to self regulate.
Working in sales showed me my strengths in customer service and achieving goals. We had sales goals each week and month that I was very adapt at meeting. We used the computer to log clothes in and out of our system so we could keep track of our inventory. This helped me to become proficient with using a technology in a work setting. Sid and Nancy is located in five-points, the downtown area of Columbia. There were many tense situations with the homeless population. This job showed me how to calmly deal with situations like that.
As a stagehand learned a lot about live performance and large-scale productions in the entertainment industry. Like what goes into working behind the scenes, and how there are many moving parts that all must be well oiled. When they needed it, I would fill in where necessary so sometimes I would get to work with the talent as well. This was very insightful and helpful in learning how to network with many different types of people. In addition, stagehands are expected to move heavy equipment for long periods of time. This job also showed me that I can work long hours. Somedays as a stagehand you can work from 7am to 3am. This job also helped me to learn and work as a team. You can’t do everything alone and your coworkers are there to support you if you support them.
At wash world I was responsible for cleaning and guest questions. Working at a laundromat showed me how much I love working with people. One of my favorite parts of working at Wash World was interacting and engaging with the wide array of customers that would come in. I worked alone most days, and this made me a very good independent worker. I learned how to stay on top of things while completely unassisted. This also helped with my individual problem-solving skills.
Pizza palace was my first job. It was very eye opening. Working in the food industry made me a very tolerant and attentive person. It was absolutely necessary to have good communication skills. It was very important to me to make every guest feel like they could ask me anything. I worked every Friday night, which was the busiest night of the week. This made me very adept at working under pressure and in a fast-paced environments.
