Performed both jobs of doctor technician I as well as II. For doctor technician I the sole responsibility is to check patients in as they arrive and check them out as they leave. Technician I also answer phone calls while at the front desk and runs insurances when patients check out. Whenever the doctor brings the patient up front to check out, I explain details of the prescription recommended by the doctor and discuss lens and frame options that fit the patients' needs. For Technician II their sole responsibility is to pre-screen patients for the Optometrist. This includes operating all machines such as a tonometer, I-Profiler, Retinal Imaging Machine, visual field test, as well as updating all the patients' information in their chart for the Optometrist. In the exam room, while with the patient, surgical history, medication, allergies, daily activities, as well as family medical history are all asked and documented in the patients' chart for the doctor. Visual acuities are also check with correction and without correction, whether it being contacts or glasses, and checked for both distance and near vision. Both positions work directly with the working Optometrist.
