Rotation 1: Pediatrics with Bryan Burnett, MD at Barnwell Pediatrics Dates 08-19-24 to 09-17-24
• Performed full physical exams on 240+ patients ranging from 4 days old to 19 years old
• Assisted in pertinent medication reconciliation for all complicated cases
• Interpreted diagnostic imaging and lab results to determine the disposition of each acute case
• Gained experience in navigating and overcoming the socioeconomic barriers to health commonly present throughout a rural area
Rotation 2: Emergency Medicine with Jamie Kenney-Kalbuneh, MD at Mcleod Regional Medical Center Emergency Department Dates 09-23-24 to 10-22-24
• Performed extensive physical exams, FAST exams, full workups, and bedside procedures on 200+ patients at a Level II trauma center
• Gained experience in the highest acuity zones, including all trauma calls during each shift
• Pertinent cases include but are not limited to STEMI/NSTEMI, ischemic/hemorrhagic stroke, anaphylaxis, SSSS, GSW, rollover MVC, drug overdose, ADHF, DVT/PE, acute abdomen, intra-abdominal hemorrhage, CSF leak, acute limb ischemia, pneumothorax, ESRD, metastatic cancer, open/displaced fractures, and other emergent cases
Rotation 3: Orthopedic Trauma with John Ulmer, PA-C at McLeod Regional Medical Center Dates 10-28-24 to 11-22-24
• Evaluated and performed stabilizing efforts for acute cases in the ER such as reduction of open wrist, ankle, femur, tib/fib fractures
• Assisted in OR cases such as open fixation of various acute fractures, I&D of severe limb infections, and hardware infection/failure
• Gained experience in the complete process from ER consults to admission or emergent procedures and eventual discharge with outpatient follow-up on 150+ patients
Rotation 4: Family Medicine with Alan Barrett, PA-C at HopeHealth Dates 1-06-25 to 02-04-25
• Performed full physical exams, lab result interpretation, medication reconciliation, and disposition on 250 patients
• The Majority of patients were uninsured and had a complex medical history with frequent inpatient admissions
• Gained experience in how to efficiently examine, chart, adapt to a high patient volume without a reduction in quality care or patient satisfaction
Rotation 5: Women’s Health with Michael Fleischer, MD at Boca OB/GYN Dates 02-10-25 to 03-11-25
• Provided prenatal and gynecological care to a mix of English/non-English speaking patients
• Assisted in patient assessments, education, and the management of prenatal care
• Performed gynecological screenings and procedures including Pap smears, Breast exams, Prenatal Ultrasounds during each trimester
• Gained OR experience in high-risk cesarean section deliveries, gynecological malignancy, and device implantation
Rotation 6: General Surgery with Arthur Cooler, MD at MUSC Columbia Dates 03-24-25 to 04-22-25
• Gained experience in the workup, admission, inpatient management, and OR intervention of 120+ patients
• Assisted in consults and procedures such as bowel perforation, open carotid/femoral endarterectomy, compartment syndrome, pheochromocytoma, bowel obstruction due to malignancy/IBD/CF, acute appendicitis/cholecystitis, complicated diverticulitis, strangulated/incarcerated hernia, osteomyelitis, necrotizing fasciitis, acute/chronic limb ischemia, mesenteric ischemia, colon resection, and malignant mass resection with node biopsy
Rotation 7: Mental Health with Jared Kelly, PA-C at Novant Health Rowan Medical Center Dates 04-28-25 to 05-27-25
