Maintain a safe work area for teammates, visitors, and myself. Perform routine maintenance on 6 boats (10 engines), main V-12 EMD engine, and CAT generator. Also, multiple electric motors, hydraulic rams, fresh water pumps, fire pumps, hydraulic tanks, fuel and waste oil barges, and grease totes. Conducted hourly checks on main EMD and generator to ensure optimal production capacity.

Responsibility's of the finishing mill operator included putting safety first. The job consisted of operating finishing mill stands 15-24 drawing wire rod stock down from 15mm un-finished to a finish size of 9/16 - 5.5mm. Through hourly checks we would ensure the quality of the finished product would meet or exceed the ASTM standards. Tools to complete this task included micrometers, calipers, tensile machines, mill wrenches, and constant communication with my upstream and downstream teammates.

Ensuring the safety of my teammates on the stacker deck at all times and helping to train new employees about the hazards associated with their positions. Staying in constant communication with shipping, finishing, and rolling mill in regards to quality, grade changes, and issues that would affect each area. Making quick and decisive decisions while fighting through a magnitude of issues in order to keep the mill running, multitasking between the stacker deck, shipping, and the banders, while safely navigating through issues. Utilizing downtime to work on mechanical issues as well as preventive maintenance on the equipment.

Making sure we as a team were performing each task safely and effectively on every occasion. Coaching teammates around me on the importance of participating in our safety programs, keeping up with our quality checks, promoting our team to ask questions and to communicate when they are unsure of something, teaching the importance of following the ASTM standards and all the different defects we encounter. Having to make quick decisions to safely solve issues that arose in order to keep the mill running or to get out of quality issues as soon as possible, which involved lots of communication with all different departments and teammates.

Making sure that my teammates and I were executing each task safely, inspecting material and checking samples for quality, removing non-conforming material from the stacker deck, communicating quality issues with the rolling mill or lead inspector, dumping crop buckets, changing saw blades, assisting maintenance, working on equipment, maintaining housekeeping of our work area, and utilizing downtime.
