Responsible for the development and maintenance of standards of quality, work quantity, frequency of operations, individual work performance, methods, and proper procedures to be followed; selection, measurement, and proper use of housekeeping and cleaning supplies; and the proper use and maintenance of housekeeping equipment. To maintain these standards, I’m responsible for the implementation of the sanitation inspection program and delegate to my subordinate supervisors the authority to conduct continuing inspections within their respective organizational units, as well as conducting their own weekly inspections.

Establish transportation methods and systems for both clean and soiled linen, which assure that during the movement of linen, the possibility of contamination or cross-infection is minimal. Responsible for the arrangement for laundering, repair, to the maximum extent within economic feasibility, and replacement of linens. He establishes controls to keep linen loss to a minimum, and to assure it is used for the specific purpose for which it is intended.
As an operational assistant, I have exercised considerable initiative, as instructions are relayed in broad, general terms, and judgment is exercised in accomplishing objectives. In the absence of the Chief of the Environmental Management Service, I have served for a minimum of one full year as the Acting/Interim Service Chief due to service absences, including his retirement. I manage dual roles as Acting Chief and Assistant Chief of EMS. I managed a minimum total of 121 FTEs.
I have been responsible for approximately 121 FTE professional staff members who provide administrative, sanitation, laundry processing, linen distribution, uniform issuance, pest control, and waste management services to the entire hospital staff. My other duties include planning, directing, and maintaining a total program to provide a sanitary Environmental Sanitation Program for floors, walls, and ceilings: stripping floors to include cleaning other floor coverings and refinishing floors, cleaning all the service areas that encompass the Medical Center, and cleaning patients’ beds and patients’ equipment. I have worked hard at maintaining the service line during the absence of the chief. I have actively worked countless hours to ensure the service met all deadlines and all required meetings, such as infection control, VISN 7 SPS, EOC committee, including the VISN EMS-related meetings and the national EPS monthly meeting. I have worked closely with contracting concerning our laundry contract, fiscal budget, and to include all other contracts in EMS. I have worked closely with the administrative officer on our day-to-day requirements. Ensured that EMS was compliant with all external source requirements. Worked with other VISN 7 chiefs in preparation for the linen contract. EMS was proactive in preparation for all VIP visits, including the Under Secretary's site visit to the Dorn VA Healthcare System during the rating year. EMS worked closely with the leadership in preparation for her visit. EMS was 100% compliant with labor mapping. All staff were 100% compliant with PMDB training during FY-24. More than 95% of EMS employees completed mandatory TMS training. Our SHEP scores for cleanliness reached 84.9 during the last quarter of FY 24. EMS BMS scores for the last quarter in FY 24 were 96%. I have worked closely with ER/LR on all disciplinary actions. EMS has fully cooperated with all EEO officials when requested. As interim Chief of EMS, I have conducted monthly staff meetings and uploaded the information. All external audit recommendations were closed on time. I have routinely reviewed and appraised the effectiveness of each phase of EMS activities. I serve as a member of the Environment of Care Rounds throughout the medical center, reporting and directing the follow-up of EMS issues to ensure the timely correction of any identified deficiencies. Maintain standards for the handling of toxic and highly contagious biohazardous waste and sharps to assure the medical center complies with local, state, and federal regulations. Made sure that the staff's needs, equipment needs, and utilization of all available resources to ensure adequate supplies were met.
