Summary

MAPPS Counselor with a knowledge of a health and Criminal Justice background. I conduct student assessments and prepare documentation for medicaid billing.

I have a caseload of 200 plus students every year. Each student is seen 2-3 times a month in an individual and group session.

It is our mission as a MAPPS Counselor to help students aim to graduate on time without becoming a teen parent or lose them in the education system.

MAPPS is a Medicaid Adolescent Pregnancy Prevention Service. I, as the Freshman Academy Counselor help adolescents acquire the knowledge and skills to prevent HIV, other STD's and unintended pregnancies. MAPPS is a part of a health education program, which uses medically accurate assessments to enhance students making good choices and decisions. I teach 16 lessons, that include peer pressure, promote health and wellness, prevent high school risk social behavior and intervene to assist youth that are in need of or at high risk for not graduating high school. I have a caseload of over 200 students and see them twice a month during their intervention block. I prepare their case plans and assessments, while billing medicaid for reimbursement.

  • I was the Community Advocacy Director supervising one employee. We were the face of CASA Family Systems by providing information to students in Orangeburg, Calhoun and Bamberg Counties. We service 11 middle/high schools with lessons in peer pressure, bullying, healthy relationships, sexual assault and teen domestic violence. This position allowed me the opportunity to bridge the gap with neighboring schools to intervene, while promoting satisfying relationships and assist with special health care needs.
  • Other duties included setting up health fair tables and speaking at churches and community forums on domestic violence.
